Your Senior Software Engineering role sits in the Distributed .Net team who are responsible for developing, supporting and maintaining Agency and other.Net applications associated with Insurance and Wealth plus supporting 3rd party applications. We are involved in project based work and business as usual developments. We are transitioning to new Agile ways of working and you will be key in helping us transform our ways of working. There is a lot of exciting challenging work being done within the team to prepare for the integration of Bancs and FNZ, so this is a great time to join.



So what am I responsible for as Software Engineer?

We are doing a lot of exciting work in our engineering space, especially within the insurance domain. Primarily you would will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining relevant applications in C#.NET 4.5.2. Supporting those developments through route to live environments and relevant infrastructure support. You would will work in an environment that is currently using mainly waterfall lifecycle but evolving to Agile DevOps environment.

You would will have a great opportunity to coach, mentor and develop your management skills. We are changing the composition of the team to bring more engineering knowledge back in-house and creating a more Agile team. This is the first and most senior technical role we are recruiting within the team towards that goal. Initially you will be coaching and leading a partner team based both onshore and offshore. You would will work within a cross-functional teamproject teateam and collaborate with solution architects to shape and review technical designs, support project stakeholders to understand critical path, team engagements and priorities, specifying and supporting low-level infrastructure design and configuration details. Providing technical consultancy and problem solving on behalf of other teams is essential to the role.







What experience, skills and knowledge will I need to do this role?

You will need a minimum of five ten years' experience of relevant software engineering across the whole software development lifecycle, a good understanding of best practice solution design and development principles, plus strong hands on skills developing in C#.NET and SQL Server.

This will be a senior role in the team so if you have had good experience coaching/mentoring other staff this could be a great role to develop your career.

Insurance industry experience would be great but as long as you have experience of large scale complex systems that would work well. A good knowledge of waterfall and agile development practices, TDD/BDD, automated builds, continuous integration, code quality metrics and good interpersonal skills would also serve you well.
