About The Role
Ecotricity is a company with a vision to make Britain green. We've been named in The Times 2016 top ten most disruptive organisations.
Our entire business relies on digital channels but the truth is we're only getting started. We need developers who want to use their aptitude for building awesome products to help us reverse climate change and enable everyone to live sustainably.
You'll be working with likeminded developers at our office in central Bristol - the 'Ecotricity Tech Hub', developing native mobile apps that we're hoping will transform the engagement of customers in our eco mission. We're currently working on a complete re-build of our online account energy app and you'll be an essential part of the development of that solution. But we're not just an energy company and there's also lots of work to do to improve our other digital products, e.g. the Electric Highway, Ecotalk and Forest Green rovers!
We've only just started our adoption of fully native mobile solutions, Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android. There's a focus on building the best user experience possible - we want our apps to have the Wow factor! This requires the right tools and libraries, in-depth sdk knowledge, and an understanding of interface guidelines and pitfalls.
We use the Scrum framework to regularly deliver value to the business, deploying early and often.
About the Candidate
We're looking for developers who are familiar with building mobile apps for iOS in Swift. The successful applicant will be very familiar with Swift, the iOS SDK, Xcode, and well-known development patterns (e.g. MVVM) necessary to create functional, testable and reusable code.
The code we write is supported by tests - so you'll need experience in writing unit/ui tests.
We're aware that every company uses different tooling, so if you're not familiar with all the technologies we use (for instance we use CircleCI for CI/CD), that's okay. However, an understanding of the concepts and willingness to learn is a must.
As a senior member of the team we're looking for someone who has experience working with and helping less experienced members of the team and is keen to continue in that capacity.
As a disruptive company wanting to make 'Britain Green', a passion for sustainability and environmental issues is a bonus.
We love to see the Github profiles of candidates (don't worry, we've all got unfinished side-projects and non-production code on ours). If you have any cool projects or Open Source software in the wild, we'd love to hear about that too. Working with us, you'll be able to add to your Open Source contributions too if you wish.
Ecotricity is the greenest energy company in Britain. In fact, when we started back in 1995, we were the first green electricity company in the world.
Our mission was and remains to change the way energy is made and used - after introducing green electricity to the world, we introduced green gas to Britain in 2010 too.
Our model is unique: we use our customers' energy bills to fund the building of new sources of green energy. We like to refer to this as turning 'bills into mills' - energy bills into energy mills, whether that's wind, sun, sea or gasmills.
We've built over seventy wind and sun parks across Britain, we're planning to build Britain's first ever Green Gasmills, and through Britwind, our small wind company, we design, build and deliver small wind turbines to landowners and businesses throughout Britain and the world!
We don't just focus on energy though - we built and run the Electric Highway, Britain's leading network of electric car chargepoints, we helped Forest Green Rovers become the greenest football club in the world, and launched Britain's greenest mobile phone service, Ecotalk.
We're a not-for-dividend company too - which means we're free to use the money we make for our mission and our mission alone.
We do all of this with the help of our customers - and the awesome team of people here at Ecotricity. Our people believe in our mission - they're amazing at what they do, and they make a difference every day they come into work.
